September 2004

It has been a busy month for NZVCA events. The ANZ and Simpson Grierson NZVCA Sponsor Series events were attended by over 200 people and we got some great feedback from those. Thanks to ANZ and Simpson Grierson for their support of these events. The Venture Capital Term Sheet topic is one that we are also carrying through into one of our conference sessions - "Latest trends in venture capital deal structuring".

The NZVCA AGM was held in Auckland on 22 September - more on that below.

Just a short newsletter today as I am heading off to join the exodus to the Australian Venture Capital Association Conference later this week. I will report back on the major themes from there in the October newsletter.

Registrations for our own Conference are coming in steadily, but don't forget - the price goes up next Monday! Register this week to take advantage of the early bird deals.

AGM - NZVCA Council elections

Following the elections at the AGM we have a virtually unchanged Council for the year ahead. Steve Corbett (Massey e-centre) has handed over the Incubators NZ baton to Derek Fairweather of Innovation Waikato. On behalf of the NZVCA I would like to thank Steve for his excellent contribution to the Association over the last year and to welcome Derek to the Council.

The other Council members are Gavin Lonergan (Direct Capital), Steve Byrom (ANZ Private Equity), Jon Hooper (Ernst & Young), Martin Turner (Falcon Private Equity), Brent Lawgun (Goldman Sachs JBWere Private Equity), Tony Bishop (iGlobe Treasury), Andrew Lewis (Simpson Grierson), Mark Dossor (Endeavour Capital) and Mark Edwards (No 8 Ventures).

Gavin Lonergan is the NZVCA Chairman for 2004/2005 - congratulations Gavin on this appointment. I would also like to thank Martin Turner for his great input as Chairman over the last year.

Copies of the AGM minutes and the Council AGM Report are now available on the nzvca website - see the link below.
